This is great FS. Thank you for this. One question though---I''m not sure what you mean when you talk about your mom's 'laddie clubs'. I am sure you don't mean so-called gentleman's clubs as that would be a weird place for a mom to take a child to. Then you talk about a department store which clompletely flumoxed me.But perhaps I am easily confused.

A definite typo, I meant to say Lady's, and we visited the store while we were there. In the 1950's you didn't waste a 10 cent bus ride on just one activity.

Very interesting personal perspective on a subject that remains as current and central to our lives in many 'western democracies' as it was 50 yrs ago.
There are a couple of stylistic or even punctuation issues that I'd think you might want to address, but overall, it is just great to see this kind of very direct, personal writing, of such a high quality.

This is good - using personal reflection to comment on a big issue.
It is also encouraging to see how far we've come on combatting racial discrmination.
