Today I went out and bought a water filtering jug and spare filters. 4 weeks ago I had to buy a new kettle as previous one died a death. Over the last few days I'd been noticing that when I made my smiley - coffeesmiley - space which I drink black, there started to appear, a white film on the surface. I checked the kettle and was stunned to see it looked like a sandy beach in the bottom with limescale staining around the sides.smiley - spacesmiley - yikessmiley - space Its only 4 wks old so I was pretty shocked to see that amount of limescale and rubbish in what is supposed to be clean drinking water. smiley - erm
I'm hoping this water filtration jug does what its supposed to and filter this dross out. We shall see, it set me back best part £30.00 with the spare filters. smiley - yikes
The last games of the cricket season are being played out, Yorkshire have been promoted to Div.1 along with Derbyshire tho looks like Derby will go up as Div.2 champions just pipping Yorks by having won one more game. A close battle in the end. smiley - biggrin
Right, time for a smiley - spacesmiley - coffeesmiley - space with some filtered water, have a good day folks, ttfn. smiley - towel

Hi BMT, I think it's fair to say that Yorkshire lost more time to bad weather than any other team, so gaining promotion back to Div. one is a great testimony to the lads. Winning the div championship would have been the cherry on our slice of the cake, but who cares, we got our bit of cakesmiley - cheers

And we don't have to play Lancashire in the county matches next season, (how sad)smiley - laugh

I wish you luck with the filters, but I fear that you might have wasted some good Yorkshire brass. Water in the region tends to be heavily calcium bearing, caused by slightly acidic moorland water running into limestone and dissolving it; even worse if it disappears underground and comes back up through boreholes. The most common solution is to use a trap, these are usually made of stainless steel strands 'knitted' into a doughnut shape and placed in the kettle; they collect the lime and can be squidged under a running tap to get rid of the deposit and used again, and again. It also helps if you empty the kettle and rinse any collected lime away, every night.

The filters will get rid of all sorts of stuff anyway but they might clog up rather quickly in a heavily calcified supply. smiley - hug

Hi Triquack, welcome to my journal. smiley - biggrin
I'm actually in the Midlands and in a hard water area. I did look into this filtering system and decided it was worth a shot. Having descaled the kettle again and then used the filtered water I noticed, more-or-less straightaway, that the white film I was getting without filtration has gone for a start. As it only took 4 weeks for the rubbish to collect in the new kettle I'll see what its like in 4 weeks time after using the filtered water. It might not stop it all but if it massively reduces it then it'll have been worth it. smiley - biggrin

My 1st team, Lancashire have been relegated to Div.2 but I'm sure we'll bounce back. smiley - boing Warwickshire were Div.1 Champions so that was good. smiley - bubbly (I lived/worked in warwickshire for 30plus yrs)
