I drink chill liquor,
Myself?
Taste nothing.
Spill it all!
Drip.
Drop.
I tried?

Fireflies blink code to tell them who to love.
They love in others what they do not see
That they possess themselves.
I know all the codes.
Why can’t I find a firefly of my own?
A flutter of wings, a momentary battle,
Then it’s over.
“I know all the codes,” I say, preparing to dine,
“It makes you so easy to catch.”
“No,” he replies, “It’s my fault.
After all, I had to come to you.”
Bastard.

This is how temptation works—
Something makes me lose all hope.
I scratch and claw just to survive,
The lies soak in,
Drown,
Recede—
Black
This is how temptation works—
Someone makes you doubt yourself.
Your heart tears open with every breath,
Blood soaks out,
Gush,
Trickle—
Red
This is how temptation works—
My dark late November screams at the void.
I smell your soul, such light and heat—
I want it.
Dance. Inhale. Slice.
This is how temptation works—
Wipe your blood off, down the drain—
So easy, when the weakness shows.
Old loves stain your heart,
Old lies stain mine.
