Sauerkraut is also a traditional Dutch food. It goes under the name of 'zuurkool' which is more or less a translation of sauerkraut (lit: sour cabbage). It is eaten as dinner mixed with mashed potatoes and sometimes pineaple or baked cubes of bacon. It is usually served with cooked 'rookworst' (smoked sausage) a traditional Dutch, less fat, type of Bratwurst.
