Incidentally, Michael Powell's spoof 'The Life and Times of Colonel Blimp' had already destroyed his career as far as the establishment was concerned. He was told by the Ministry of Information during the Second World War that if he made the film, which mocked a chubby, moustached, jingoistic ineffective general and had a sympathetic German character, he would never get a knighthood. He made the film anyway, and he never did.

I rather enjoyed it.
