I am also in awe of her (having just read the PR thread, and your comment). My greatest fear is going blind. I have a horror of blind people, and wonder how they can be happy. This has given me new perspective. Thank you

I had blind friends in my school growing up, and one of them was the happiest person I knew.

Sometimes Cindy impressed us with her abilities. Like teaching herself to play our school organ so the two of us could play piano/organ duet. I, of course, needed sheet music, so I was in awe...

A group of us used to go bowling on Saturday mornings. One day, Cindy bowled a strike! The entire place burst into applause. We were surprised, because we didn't realise those adults were watching unskilled teenagers. Thinking back, I realise they all had the same question when we came in with a student with a white cane...

The trick is: seeing takes up a huge part of your brain, called the visual cortex. But you know what? If you aren't using it for that, you can use it for something else. I suspect Tom from uni would have agreed. He was a pre-law student, and a prankster. (He streaked around the dormitory on his birthday.) At dinner, his buddies would arbitrarily move his food around his tray, which Tom thought was hilarious...

So I'm really glad you enjoyed Fanny Crosby's story. I grew up on her music, so I feel I know her. (You know, like you do with Cat Stevens or Donovan?) I'm glad she managed to get around those people who thought blind people couldn't do things simply because they hadn't figured out the workaround.

Have you found a suitable image? I've just been looking over ta-ra-ra-boom-de-ay! and now have to drag myself away from YouTube suggestions based on my choice, as the is on (extra "People's Sunday" due to the rain delays during the first week)

I haven't heard anything about an image yet - and our resident genius is on holiday right now.

I'd suggest putting funny labels on a phrenology chart. They're always so amusing...
