I actually did that a few years ago. They were holding a Confederate Memorial Day celebration on the courthouse steps in Tampa. I attended wearing my Union Uniform, showing that we all respect each other's dead after so many years. I parked in one of the garages and started by foot to the Courthouse. I got a bit twisted around on the unfamiliar streets, I came to a corner where a couple black teenagers were hanging out. I casually asked the direction to the Courthouse. They laughed and pointed me in the proper direction, as I left they shouted 'if you had one of those other suits on we wouldn't have told you nuthin''

Our old friend echomikeromeo has studied the invention of the vocabulary for discussing things gay. I think her thesis is available online: I know some of it is, or was, because I started reading it.
