You could always try subtly asking yourself what you really want. Maybe just try to slip it into the conversation.
If all else fails, candy is always good

About how old will you be? I just turned the big 18 myself a week ago.
I must say I've moderately enjoyed adulthood for the past week. It feels a lot like 17 plus a week.

Yeah, that's normally a good thing. I decided to get "Mario and Luig: Partners in Time" for my Nintendo DS. Does anyone have any better ideas?
