Going back a bit, it seems that bamboo charcoal removes most NO3 from tap water. It's sequestering some carbon while you're at it!

An interesting article zoomer. I could set up something in one water butt..though I'd have to find a way to enclose the charcoal in a fine mesh fabric..
I'd have to send off for the bamboo charcoal. Grow bambo in your garden and it takes off rampantly.. goodbye wildflower meadow
