Strawberry Fair 2008

Post 1

Just got home from Strawberry Fair. The weather is traditionally either boiling hot or pouring with rain, but this year it bucked the trend and was cool and cloudy, with the odd spot of rain.

Usually meet a few people I know there, and this year the first two I ran into were from the ML boards!

Despite the not-so-brilliant weather, it was pretty crowded, so didn't stay long. Walked round the whole site, stopping to chat to various other acquaintances (the College Head Porter and his partner, a couple of students) had a plate of chips and listened to some nice music (not the loud stuff in the big tents). Women of Note (http://www.women-of-note.org/index.htm) were singing on the Wigwam stage when I arrived - very enjoyable, even for someone as non-musical as me.

Sounds like a nice day on the whole - the weather probably added to the event. Too hot is exhausting and fractious, too cold just plain nasty.

Sounds very pleasant to this heat-hater, annie! Glad you had a good time.

I just walked quietly in the lovely cool weather through Great Shallow Crossing Place, for tea with my local 'pretend' auntie (90), and her Cats' Protection cat, on the other side of the village. She always gets out the Royal Albert for me, which feels very special.

Before that I sent Darling Daughter, who had been staying with me overnight, off to Strawberry Fair, looking absolutely fantastic, to join her considerable train of adoring knights-bachelor. I gave her a wodge of dosh to ensure they all ate well and drank - erm - acceptably to celebrate her existence (less hope on the booze front with the lads, but I wasn't excessive; alcohol makes DD ill since her gastric disasters and surgery). She's had a rotten time this last year healthwise, as you know, so it was a case of throwing a very belated 18th party at a distance for her (she was too ill at the actual time) without any of the problems of clearing up at home afterwards! Cheapskate? Moi?

I have now found all three bike D-lock keys so we must arrange a handover. Mwah! and {{{{smiley - hug}}}} from $qxx

Morning $quigs!

Hope DD had a good time at the Fair - it is actually more enjoyable if it's not too hot: the combination of sunburn and excessive alcohol consumption makes for some very unattractive sights, IMO!

I will be at the Meet next Saturday (but probably on the fringes), but handing over the keys would be a good excuse for a separate get-together.
