The reason why "Starship Titanic" sometimes work in Windows XP and sometimes don't could be Service Pack 2. I had the same problem, with blank squares where the robots and other animations should be, and someone told me to uninstall SP2. I did and it's worked since then.

How do you uninstall SP2? I have the exact same problem and would really like to get the game to work.

Go to the Control Panel and 'Install or uninstall programmes' (I think it's called that in the English version). Scroll down to Windows Service Pack 2 and uninstall it.
That's what I did... It might not work if you've got a very new computer that came with SP2 already installed.

Yeah, see, my OS came with SP2 already installed. It doesn't seem like there's anything to do to get rid of it then.
