I know! I'm so happy! ... too bad I have a sucky 1999 phone that still uses blocks as numbers and "beeb beep" as a ring tone. *sigh* I will need to beg mother and father for a new phone.

Thank you! We're all so excited today that we could burst - not only the launch of h2g2 Mobile, but also the arrival of the movie. It's a great time to be a Hitch-Hikers' / h2g2 fan!

Getting my smartphone working just in time for this, and being able to go on to the guide with it, and look at entrys was Only draw back was, that the otherwise thing of me today just totally faded into insignificent now to try the HTTP browser to see if I can post from the phone on my PS

quick question;
will we still be able to write in conversations about the guide entries or is that only possible to do here? will we be able to read them either?

As I understand it, the H2G2 mobile edition, for WAP is just the edited entrys, without conversations or ability to post to them. However, if you can use the phone for HTTP sites, and it supports cookies and java scripts, you would be able to log into the normal HTTP H2G2 site, and bring up your PS search the guide start and write to conversations in much the same way we can on our PCs

ok so you can post in conversations if you have a full http browser but the WAP version is just for reading the edited guide. thnks for clearing that up for me.

Well thats at least how it looks on my phone; I've yet to try out my HTTP browser on my phone, but I have been on to the WAP version of the guide, and that does seem to be just the edited entrys and such like; reduced down size of the site and layout to make it quicker to load up etc but all seemed to work well when I used it, I did a search for an entry and found it and read through it a bit, then I went to the 'life' 'universe' etc sections and browsed through a couple of entrys that way Who wants to guess what my mobile phone bill is going to start doing from now on?

i'll hazard a wild one and say go up a lot!
sadly i don't have a smartphone and my WAP browser is not activated because my mum doesn't want me wasting money. oh well, i still have the internet.

I've always hated cell phones (just something about them), but it is encouraging to see the Guide in its true from. Well, technically, it'd be its own, far more complicated device, and available on every inhabited planet in the galaxy, but damn it, it's good enough for now.
The first time I see somebody walking around outside, adding an entry to the Guide, perhaps describing events as they unfold, I'll probably cry. Then within the year I'll see The Guide Mark II somehwere and panic quite spectacularly.

the guide mark II It seems a bit oddly formated on my phones screen But I think that might be me needing to wtiddle aabout with the settings on the phone as much as anything else I've yet to get that* far with the HTTP site, as the phone should do that; I can get the front page up on the phone over the web, (not the WAP), but can't get the log page to come up I will try another go later, and if I can hopefully get it working, and log in and get to conversations and add entrys etc., Then the next time I'm sitting in a quiet pub with not much to do, and my phone is at hand, I will attempt to write the first review I'll have done straight into the guide from the location of the review
Key: Complain about this post
