I'm not too sure what this piece of writing is supposed to mean - possibly nothing! I'm an ex-systems analyst, who is currently studying to get into journalism, and this, I think, can be considered my first experience of public writing. Soon, I will submit an real article, of a decent length but until then, your thoughts are all apreciated!

I'm not sure what it means either, but it seems to work well as an introduction of sorts . It explains your current perspective, and would fit well on your personal space alongside the other information you've written there, or in your journal where it would be easy to add on to as more thoughts occur to you.

The Collaborative Workshop is a feedback forum that can help you in your journalistic pursuits. h2g2 is a fabulous place to experience public writing for the first time - it's a fun, easy-going, peer-driven environment where you can try new things and experiment a lot.

The main thrust of the site is creating the Edited Guide, an encyclopaedic collection of entries on just about anything you can think of. New factual entries written by people just like you (and me) appear on the <./>FrontPage</.> daily, and it's a real thrill knowing that your writing is one of the first things visitors to the site will see. The Writing-Guidelines will give you more information on how to get involved.

We also have a few outlets for creative writing, more personal accounts, poetry and fiction. <./>ThePost</.> is a weekly 'newspaper' we produce (although unfortunately I don't think there was a new issue this week, but feel free to peruse the back issues). It features regular contributors, columns, and one-off pieces by our community members. The <./>Underguide</.> is closer to an Edited Guide set-up for creative writing but still not quite the same, they feature one entry on the Front Page every Friday.

If creative writing is more your bent, the Writing-Alternative workshop gives you the opportunity to get feedback on your work andgive feedback to others.
