What do mothers want for Christmas? My mother refuses to give anyone any good ideas about what to get her for Christmas, Birthdays, Mother's Days, etc. She likes to read, but it's usually not very easy to find her a book that she actually wants and hasn't borrowed from a friend or bought for herself. She isn't employed (mothering is a full time job) but you can't get her anything usefull around the house because if she really needs it she'll buy it for herself (she once went around saying that she wanted new measuring cups, so I bought measuring cups, and three days later she had bought some for herself, forgetting that she had asked for them for Christmas!). Last year we got her a sweater, but clothes are always difficult because my brother and I can never remember her size so we always have to come up with some creative way to get it out of her, and we suspect she usually suspects what we're doing! She likes to drink tea (which is actually something distinctive in the US) but tea isn't something that lasts a long time. Any ideas, anybody?

Mothers always want gifts that tell them (and eveyone they show it to)how much their children love them.Perhaps a mothers ring? It sounds like it needs to be tasteful and something she helped pick out.Maybe you could have her pick the setting.Go in with your brother halvsies maybe.Being a mother myself, I have been wanting a mothers ring for as long as I've had children. It's just not something you go out and buy yourself. You want to hold your hand out, waggle your fingers and say'look what my darling children think of me'Anyway, it's an idea.

I've never heard of a mother's ring! (Are your children on h2g2? I could hint at them to get you one!). My brother and I could go halfsies on it, so I'll keep it in mind. My mom doesn't wear alot of jewelry, though. Usually just the wedding ring and occasionally some stud earings. And she loses what she does wear on a regular basis
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll keep it in mind (it's the best idea I've got at the moment )

Hey there Irving!
How about a painting? Or maybe a sculture or something? Like lee lee(?) said above, something that shows you care. Something she can put on show and be proud of, because her son/children got it specially for her. Does she like country scenes or portraits maybe? Animals? As the saying goes: 'a picture paints a thousand words'.

Did I forget to mention above that I have no source of actual income? Thanks for the suggestions... but this is one of the reasons I have such a hard problem buying things for her
Thanks for dropping by!
