The Best Restaurant in the World... Ever

The fact that this discussion was inspired by Douglas Adams' passion to eat out, it would be very easy to say that the best place to eat is the Restaurant at the end of the Universe.
But I'm not going to...
The best place in the world to eat out is a little transport cafe in the town of Shoreham, West Sussex, England.
It is called "Grub 'n' Stuff".
The mere thought of the place sets my mind wild, i start drooling everywhere and am forced to promise myself another visit in the near future. They serve the usual 'greasy spoon' cafe style food including the traditional English breakfast, and my favorite, the 'Double Egg & Chips'. The quality and taste of the food is simply unbeatable, but the best thing by far about the place is that they are real people. Truck drivers, Builders, Fishermen and others alike eat there, with no pretentions about anything. People say what they think about everything. The one consistant topic of conversation is the food, and there is never a bad word said except in jest.
Its honest, pure, real, and damn it tastes good!

The best restaurant in the world ever is Maison Lafitte in Chapaqua New York, just north of New York City in Westchester. When the Clintons ended being President of the US they chose Chapaqua for their new home, and for good reason, Maison Lafitte is there. You drive through a beautiful residential neighborhood, uphill and at the top is a beautiful building, (best known as Tara from the movie 'Gone With the Wind') The view of the Hudson river and the flowers and fountain are spectacular, but nothing beats the excellent food there. The maitre D is Benjamin Amur and the chef is Sebastian, who is really 'world-class'. Dark wood paneling, crystal chandeliers, good china plates, crystal classes, and fine linen tablecloths add to the dining experience, but the food is really memorable. And the prices are remarkably low and fit the average person's budget. If you are ever anywhere in the US you should try it.

Grub n Stuff sounds like a great place, somewhere that serves "real food"! It's great to go for a meal somewhere more (hate to use the word but I shall) upmarket every now and then but I think I'd choose double egg and chips over a fancy looking plate with hardly enough food to feed a bird on it any day! Here in Milton Keynes we have a couple of fab places to eat, at each end of the spectrum - The first one is the Carrington Arms in Mulsoe, a country pub which serves amazing steaks and fish with the best gooey garlic potatoes, pretty expensive as they price the meat by weight but worth it for a special night out. The other one is like Grub n Stuff, called the Super Sausage in Northamptonshire - it's a truck stop but has won awards for it's food (the all day breakfasts are huge!) and service.
As for the Restaurant at the end of the Universe, well I'm not sure I'd like a chat with my steak before I eat it, but the show outside the window would be worth the visit!
