We received our first snowfall of the season overnight.
So according to the weather wisdom of my ancestors, that means we'll have either 16 or 17 more bouts of winter weather this season.
The theory being that you'll receive the number of snow falls equal to the date of the first snow of the year.

No snow in London yet, but then we don't always get snow.
I did have a wonderful white Christmas up in the midlands though, at Mark's parents' house. It started snowing heavily when we we unwrapping the presents and continued falling all through lunch. Quite unusual for the UK!

Our girls were disappointed that they didn't get a White Christmas, but after last year when we were snowed in for a couple days and the power went out for 6 hours, we were fine going without the snow.
I read in the newspaper the other day that we've had seven inches of rain since December, but thankfully the temperatures have been unusually warm - otherwise we would have had something like 6 feet of snow!

Just thinking about shovelling that amount of snow makes my back ache!
I've been out in the snow already - had to make a quick run to the grocery store. No, not for milk and bread like *most* people in this area , we were completely out of eggs, and I needed more to *make* bread!
Anyhow, I was kinda surprised to see that there was some black ice out there. I thought it had been too cold to have ice form, it must have been from the roads being salted and then re-freezing as the temperature dropped further overnight.
What really boggles the mind though is that even though the roads have been salted, somehow they seem to have missed some important spots - like curves, hills, and intersections. How *do* they do that?!

I was thinking the same thing this morning when I noticed they salted the 30-foot spur that leads to my neighbor's house, but failed to salt the intersetion at the bottom of the hill beside the creek!

I didn't cross any bridges, but they probably weren't salted either.
Is it any wonder that the headline in the Intell this morning said that the snow had caused a "rash of accidents"?
