Perhaps some women choose to use shower gel for the reasons you mentioned, but there are other reasons.
Personally I like it because it does not dry out my skin like most soaps do. It generally leaves my skin feeling much softer afterwards as well.
As an added bonus..for a woman at least it can be quite a sensual experience. Standing under a running shower, pour a little into the palm of your hand..smooth it over first one then the other breast...a bit on your tummy...arms..face. Then take the wet sponge...slowly massage the gel..watching it froth and foam..feeling how nice it feels...imagining your lover...watching..slow circular movements...
Ummmm think I will go take a shwoer..now... ;- )
