Soda Bread; the quick fix loaf
Gertcha Cowson Started conversation Jan 11, 2011
I have been making my own bread for years, but nothing is more convenient than quickly rustling up soda bread. But I seem to be alone in the fact, that as I do not usually happen to have buttermilk hanging about in the fridge, I use natural yoghurt.
It seems everyone else uses vinegar, surely there must be others out there who do the same as me, otherwise I am at lose to where I even got the recipe from??????
My recipe:
5oz wholemeal flour
5oz strong white flour
1tsp sea-salt
1tsp bicarb
2tsp baking powder
3fl oz tepid water
3fl oz natural yoghurt
1tbsp oil, sunflower, olive, rapeseed, whatever
Method(easy)
1)sift all the dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl.
2)make a well in the centre, pour in the wet ingredients
3)mix all ingredients well so everything is combined
4)rub hand with oil and shape dough into a ball, cut a cross along the top.
5)bake in middle of your oven for 30mins @200c(GM5)
6)let it rest for 30mins and enjoy.
