New Year Fatigue
Skankyrich [?] Started conversation Jan 5, 2008
Well, that's what I thought it was, anyway. I did seem to be taking ages to recover from the seasonal work, and the hot-and-colds and joint ache was a new one for me coming from simple exhaustion.
And yesterday, the full-on flu hit me. I normally avoid the worst of it by necking Lemsips and flu remedies at the first sign of anything coming on, but I just didn't spot the signs this time.
Then some decided it would be fun to break in to the hotel restaurant just before 5am, just as I was starting to feel a little better.
Today I had plans to go for an amble on the Moors with my old mate Stu and a few friends, and despite feeling bloody awful went for it. Kill or cure, I reckoned. It nearly did kill me a couple of times on the way up, but once I started walking I felt fairly ok, even in the huge hailshower that briefly hit us. My insides still feel like glue and every time I put a jumper on to stave of the shivers I start sweating, but I can breathe at least.
So apologies to everyone that's waiting on me to do something, but there is likely to be a short delay...

Hi, Rich,
Take care, it probably caught you at a low ebb. At least it doesn't appear to be the nasty noro-virus. Keep warm, drink plenty (not your usual tipple!!!). Hope you are better soon.

Thanks, guys. I'm pretty sure that's what it is; it just crept up on me while I was fairly susceptible.

One of the best things i've found for colds and flu is, freshly squeezed lemons hot water and honey. It really helps with the aches and congestion.

Oh my, doesn't it always come once the stress and tension are off and you start to relax?
Get better soon.

I'm just annoyed that I put it down to fatigue, because if I'd seen it coming it probably wouldn't have got this developed

Sometimes you don't get the opportunity to stave off colds and flu. You can fight it as long as you can, but it will always come through

Sounds exactly like whatever hit here: First it got Yoda, then it got me. No idea if it's this nanovirus thing, bird flu or just stress induced thing; but basically it's your body saying "Gimme a break will you?"
You need rest more than anything else; & TLC
Here's something to get you on the road to recovery:
Now; go to bed or Zendevil will Spank Skanky!

Oh, no!
I had flu a few weeks ago. I sincerely hope you do not feel as shitty as I did then. Rest up, get some honey into your system. And if all else fails, poison it with booze.
Seriously, though, I hope you're well and back on your feet in no time.

I'm going for the poison option. Kill or cure. I'd rather deal with a hangover than the flu, so as long as I can get it down me - which is a struggle admittedly - I'll give it a go.
My soul was utterly, utterly refreshed by being out on the moors today, I just need the body to catch up now!

Do what Venus suggested: lemon and honey, but not in hot water, but in hot elderberry juice. That's perfect.

The nearest I'm going to get to that is a tangerine and some sugar in some hot blackcurrant squash...

Blackcurrent has lots of vitamin C, too, so that should be fine.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Posted Jan 6, 2008
Sorry to pour water on yer bonfire 'rich, but if you had influenza you'd barely be able to get out of bed to go to the khazi, never mind go for a hike on't moors wi't pals. Seriously. People often say they've had flu when what they've really had is a bad infection of some kind.
I've only had flu once that I know of for sure and can remember. It was about 10 years ago. I started feeling a bit Tom and Dick on the Wednesday, felt a whole lot worse on Thursday morning, went to bed Thursday afternoon and hardly got out of it again until Sunday morning. I slept about 20 hours each day and had nowt to eat for three days straight. At 3am on Sunday I woke up - both me and the bed were drenched in sweat because the fever had broken. I felt a lot better on Sunday morning than I had on Saturday but I was as weak as a newborn kitten for a couple more days and I didn't go back to work until Tuesday night.
Hope you feel better soon though, whatever it is.
