Skanky's Beer Fest
Skankyrich [?] Started conversation Dec 4, 2007
It's very quiet round here tonight, so I'm having a beer fest. I've selected six ales from the offie, and will be drinking them here for your pleasure.
If you have an ale of your own, please feel free to join in. If you don't, sit back and enjoy the spectacle of a slightly tipsy man typing his beer reviews.

Thanks I feel I deserve it
First up is a bottle of one of my old favourites, Sharpe's Doom Bar from just over the Cornish border. From the tap, it's one of my favourites, not just for the fact that I can go to the bar and order a pint of Doom. After a walk, it's sensational; nice, rounded and sweet mid-flavours, fairly full, and with a glowing aftertaste. It's one thing the Cornish do well.
I can't help but feel that something has gone wrong in the bottling, though. You expect a little gas, but in my Doom it lingers right through the pint, and never quite settles. Every swig is accompanied by a tingle behind the back teeth as the gas fizzes around, and to some extent it spoils it. Even so, it's a fairly refreshing pint, but I can't help but feel that I'm drinking it out of context.

Have a JD, Roymondo, why not?
I might have a look at that page later on, but I can't read it at the moment as the text clashes with my Gooey blue screen

Sorry, B - I knew it wasn't original, but couldn't remember where I'd seen it. If my memory stretched back that far, I'd have mentioned you at the top...

Fell free to nick any of it, Bob
E and I have just heard a line in Gordon Ramsey's latest Nightmare, which we plan to use in our next argument after hearing it screamed in a Welsh accent:
'Don't you be bloody reasonable with me!!'
My next beer was a Wychwood 'Wychcraft'. I've never had much Wychwood before beyond the old Hobgoblin, which is another of my favourites; Wychcraft is a blonde, but only really in name. In fact, it's not much lighter than your average bitter in colour, and although it's fairly fruity and hoppy I reckon blonde is pushing it a bit. I found it very easy to drink, and I was a bit disappointed when I got to the bottom of the glass. It's pretty damn good, but it's not really a blonde.

Bob: I came across that entry some time agop, though I'm not sure how, but did think 'blimey, cool!'
My passion for ale, its historical and cultural significance is probably made clear here: A20701928

Next up is Joseph Holt's 'Maplemoon', which looking at the bottle will be all spiritual and woodman-like. It's good marketing, with a nice picture of a sparkling maple tree on the front and loads of hippyesque atmospheric ramblings on the back. I bought it because it looked like one of camps in a bottle.

Hmm. I'm not sure what to make of this one. It says on the bottle 'For Those Who Know Bitter' so I'm prepared to be told I'm wrong here, but I expect a full flavour from a bitter. This one doesn't actually smell of anything at all (E is eyeing me curiously as I sniff my pint intently), and the taste is a little disappointing. The taste on top of my palate is beautiful, fresh as ale should be, but I can't taste anything else whatsoever anywhere else in my mouth. This leaves me with the odd feeling that the bottom half of my mouth is completely missing. It's also far too gassy, and I'm ready to neck it an move on.
The odd thing is that there is very little going for it other than the initial taste, which is almost perfect.

All of the beers being drunk in this session were purchased at the Totnes branch of the supermarket named after The Doors' singer

Thats a shame a little dissapointing. I wont go into my favorites as the entry makes it self evident.
Are you a cider man by any chance

I've a beer list on here somewhere in an entry, called something like 2legs beer list, its wildly inaccurate, as I've not gotten round to update it in ages, and for example last SAturday I had three new beers an Oyster stout (but not the adnams oyster stout), Three rivers Old disrepetable and... soemthign else Think you were missing an 'M', in the list; Mutford Mild (east anglian local microbrewry brew), errr, sure there are others

I have been known to enjoy the odd cider, Bob, but I move to real ale when the really good stuff - the stuff that comes in a milk carton - isn't available
What gave it away, the Devon reference?

2legs, I've just this moment opened a Marston's Oyster Stout. Was that the one?
