Thanks all I'll refer to this when I need a pseudonym. I've had another today:

Web site: www.cheapfabrics.co.uk [web address left in - they've clearly had enough awful publicity already]
Dear Sir/ Madam
Would you like to work online from home and get paid weekly?
CHEAP FABRICS needs a bookkeeper in the United states/Canada,so we
want to know if you would like to work online from home and get
paid weekly without leaving or affecting your present job?
CHEAP FABRICS, run a textile and fabrics firm here in the UK and we
need someone to work for the company as a representative/bookkeeper
in the United States of America/Canada
Our company produces various clothing materials, batiks, assorted
fabrics and traditional costume of which we have clients we supply
weekly in the United states.
Our clients make payments for our supplies every week in cheques
and via bank transfer, so we need someone in the United States of
America to work as our representative and assist us in processing
the payments from our clients and will be entitled to a re-
numeration.
All you need to do is to receive payments from our customers in the
United States, deduct 10% commission and send the balance to us.
Warmest Regards,
Mr. Terry Walter.
International Sales CHEAP FABRICS.

Dear Terry,
Thank you very much for the job offer. I've been a bit short of
work since I did that naked thing on Channel Five, so anything that
would top up my income would be very much appreciated. Please tell
me more!
Maggie Philbin has been a bit short of work lately as well, so I'll
have a word and see if she's interested as well. Noel used to do
this sort of thing before he got the Deal break, so I'm pretty up
on the job.
Where do you import your batiks etc from? John Craven has just
started an import business himself as the shop he runs with Mike
Reed is going so well, and I know he's looking for sources for
ethnic clothing and carvings. If you have any ideas, let me know.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Keith Chegwin - you can call me Cheggers!
All I need is some replies....

Although more subtle and plausable that hotel scam, with more believable detail about fabrics , they went for the kill with money transfers mention too soon in first e.mail. If it was me I would hve left mention of money transfer until victim had been drawn in a little more with many people more con savy on e.mail cons. However it depends on how desperate or greedy the possible victim is. Desperation particularly can make a person blinkered.
It is good these e.mals are being shown here as makes one think and be aware a little more of possible scams in general.
I have just realised this is someones personal space, so sorry as didn't ask if it was ok to join in. I was trying to find something else and came upon this cons thread by accident.

Not at all, Strangely, you're very welcome
If anyone does get any 'interesting' scam emails, please let me or my alter ego know and I'll waste a bit of their time on your behalf In the meantime, Mark Don has replied. His spelling and grammar has taken a turn for the better, though he still isn't quite sure how to spell his name:

Greeting Keith Chegwin,
Thanks for your reply and assistance so far. I am glad to tell you that I have just concluded payment arrangement with the clients and i will be making full payment of £3,700 to you. This will confirm the booking fully.
The names of the clients are, [note that these addresses are genuine - they show up on the hotel postcoder - but the names are made up. So it's safe to post them here unedited. No need for a ]

However, I am going to send you the Credit Card Information that will cover the cost of their accommodation, and the necessary arrangement for the clients. Moreover, I was able to make an arrangement with a traveling pre-paid car hiring agent who will supply the clients with cars and other necessary
things they will use through out their stay with you.
So in order not to share the credit card information with a third party, I have decided that only one person will have to handle the credit card information. So once you are on receipt of it, you are required to charge the credit card, confirm the amount of (£9,700), in your account then deduct the cost of your services (£3,700) and kindly send (£6,000 ) to the agent's via SWIFT WIRE TRANSFER. I will forward to you thedetails once this
is confirmed.
Confirm this message and provide me with your.

Please! remember that the integrity of our agency is involved, so this business requires prompt response. I also hope the stay of the clients will be
made comfortable.
Kind Regards

Thankfully, Trig, he's presumed that I do take credit cards
He hasn't noticed that I've misquoted him, though. Six people for two weeks at £250 per week makes £3000. I'm sure anyone who wanted to make a booking would check the final cost and note that they were being overcharged by £700.
I'm considering my reply now

Hi Mark,
Wow! I can't believe Clement Duke himself is coming to stay with us. He is an amazing musician; I knew he lived in north Devon, but not that he lived in Okehampton. This really is a great honour, and I am delighted on a personal and professional level.
I hope you don't mind, but I found Clement's details on the Internet and have emailed him to ask if he has any special requirements; I hope we can do something special for him.
Anyway, the arrangement sounds fine to me. Can you please send me the credit card details and the name of your agency? I will also require a contact to wi8re the balance to. I am not familiar with 'Swift Wire Transfer' - I have only been involved in the tourism business for a few months - so I will need you to tell me the procedure stage by stage.
I have a quick query for you - you originally stated that you would require a room for yourself and your family. Do you need a room for yourselves for this special anniversary, or not?
Assuring you of my most urgent attention at all times,
Keith Chegwin
