I've been thinking of London, Birmingham and Manchester smiley - winkeye.

You're not putting Birmingham in. No way.

A very misunderstood city it is.

I also wondered if we could have a second go. (There is a lot these days that really gets my knickers in a twist. smiley - smiley)

Put Birmingham in, then it will be worth driving on the M6!

LLLWaz, I am interested by your tea allergy. I gave up tea 17 years ago after a cup made me physically ill - It is good to know there was a reason for my reaction!!

You are not alone 'Muddling through this technology stuff!', definitely not alone! 'It is good to know there was a reason for my reaction', that's it exactly. Tea drinking is so taken for granted it doesn't occur to you that it might be why you're feeling a bit off. I've never been physically ill but I have met someone who was.

I agree about the M6 - Birmingham is a major obstruction. Is the city centre's central feature still the hole in the road by the way?

Have they got one too?
The Hole in the Road was Sheffield city centre's principal 'feature', 60s through 90s (cf the opening reels of The Full Monty)
We filled ours in.

As above

Never realised it was JC-venerated. That puts a whole new dimension on it.

Non tea drinking does seem to be viewed as an abnormality ... but I digress from Birmingham - which is usually recommended.

Don't know about the hole in the road, I can't see past the concrete!

First time I went to Birmingham I'm sure all the directions I got were referenced to the Hole in the Road. Stoke definitely has, or had, one. Looks like they were fashionable smiley - erm.

Anyways, if I've got Birmingham mixed up with Stoke it's mix-up-ability with Stoke is in itself grounds for going in. Though calling the City Hall the Council House is a point in its favour.

('Non tea drinking does seem to be viewed as an abnormality ' yes, you get funny looks. Have you tried looking absolutely horrified when offered a cup smiley - winkeye?)

Maybe the nomination should be for cities in general.

(I like confusing hardened tea drinkers by turning my nose up or curling my lip ... if when I initially refuse tea they seem offended I make a point of explaining that I never touch the stuff and even the smell makes me queasy. Then I loudly ask if they have any coffee!!)
