Ok, only started looking in here yesterday, didn't really know what was going on but now I'm getting used to the whole thing (HA!) I am currently on a nightshift at work, which is what prompted me to sign up on here in the first place (I'm so bored!)

h2g2 - the cure to all boring professions
Exactly how I got started ... almost 5 years ago! Makes the day go by faster, I should know (13 hours a day!)
Welcome!

Cheers! That is some shift you do. Luckily, I only have an 8 hour but it's in a call centre so if no-one is calling I've got nothing to keep me occupied. Bummer.
My nightshift actually finishes tommorow so won't be able to log on so much as the day shift is hectic but I will try cos this place is really friendly.
Thanks again for the welcome.

Yes, it's a long shift, but the trade off is that I only have to work 4 days a week, then I get 4 days off - every week
So, if you're going on days, do you work a rotating shift? And don't worry, we have tons of 'lunchtime lurkers' Come on back whenever you can!

I do 3 earlies (8-16), 3 lates (12-20) & then 3 days off which isn't bad cos it means I get 6 lay-ins every shift set. Nights (22-06) only come up about 4 times a year cos so many people actually want to do them
If I may quote Arnie Swozziwotsit, "I'll be back". I'm, kinda, getting into it now also actually conversing with people is another reason to come back too, wouldn't want to seem rude by not replying

I'm glad you're enjoying it here!
A lot of people do enjoy night shifts, I understand it has a lot to do with office politics. Night shifts are a lot slower and a lot quieter with fewer head honchos wandering around. It's been several years since I've had to work nights, but I recall not disliking them too much.
On the subject of schedules, though, anytime it appears I'm not around I'll usually be back in a few days. I don't log on from home too much, I do 90% of my h2g2 from work so I'm not here on my days off. Although I've just installed a cable modem at home so that may change

How's tricks, broelan?
Here we are again, as you can see I haven't quit my job yet (though it has come close a few times). Dealing with members of the public can be so frustrating at times especially when all you are trying to do is help.
Has anything exciting happened in your part of the world? It's been a right barrel of laughs around here actually that would be a lie

Nothing much new on this end - having a long week of it. Feeling under the weather and overworked.
Dealing with the public can be very frustrating indeed! Occasionally it's rewarding too. I spent 12 years working with the public (in retail sales) before taking my current job (in security), and for the first couple of years I missed it terribly.
Key: Complain about this post
