One question -
In formulating my update, can I work online and save to my own personal space before publishing? Or would it be better to work on it on my home PC and then upload when I'm complete?
Let me know - I'm brand new to all this stuff.

That's really a matter of personal preference...
I used to write exclusively online. But in the old days when the servers weren't quite so stable, a little glitch and you'd lose a hour's typing. After about a dozen or so times, I got smart and started composing offline.
It's a good bet to type in a plain text program (notepad on PCs) since most other software will add lots of spurious gunk when you upload it.
Good luck and do let me know if I can be of any help.
