John the gardener says, "Free Tibet!"

There is nothing sinister about ceremonial objects having been made of human parts. A fundamental part of Buddhism is the concept of impermanence, which states that all things are in a constant state of change, including human bodies; the use of human parts, such as thigh bones for musical instruments, is an expression of this idea. Another aspect is the notion of non-attachment. Attachment is viewed as a negative emotion, which binds people to worldy existence. Giving of one's body (as with the tibetan tradition of sky burial) is an expresion of non-attachment.

John the Gardner,

Tibetans are probably not the only ones who believed in "sky burial". Zoroastrians (Parsis) also have burials in "Towers of silence".

While it may appear ghastly to us, it is probably the noblest of sacrifices one can make (apart from organ donations).

Our chinese friends seem to be grasping at any straws they can find as they drown in their own arguments.

the human skin and instruments made by human born showed in the [Unsuitable/Broken URL removed by Moderator] were from alive slavers who were put in prison under dalai lama's control!!!!!! it is nothing with "sky burial".

brutality never become kindness, even though under the flag of "democracy" or "human rights". just go to tibet, except a small groop of monks and separists, most chinese(tibetan) absolutely refuse to go back to dalai's slavery control again.
about 1/3 of population in tibet are monks.
the Han people was, is and will be support tibet development. my hometown is Sichuan province where near tibet. my phone number is [Personal details removed by Moderator]. welcome to discuss this issue with me. the truth never can become false.

Sherry, there is an element of truth in what you say if you are talking about the brutality of life long ago. There were comparably brutal practises in virtually all countries. But it is absurd to accuse the current Dalai Lama, the 14th, or his predecessor, the Great 13th, for such barbarity. To go further back into any of our histories, whether we live in Sechuan or Slough is to examine a time when life was cheap and punishment was often extremely severe. Thank you for you invitation to discuss this.

It would be insane for any one who does not agree with the party line to visit china, let alone Tibet. I could be in the slammer in a heart beat. It is a monstrous lie for any one to pretend there are freedoms of anything in china.

Of course, one can live a lie or lay low and yet visit Tibet or china. Neither of which any one who cherishes freedoms would find inviting.

There is a limit on national pride before it becomes dangerous for people everywhere in the world. In china's case, in my opinion, that threshold has long been crossed. God save "china" outside the great wall (there was a reason for that wall, a reason that I guess has been forgotten by the chinese living within it today).

Sherry, I'm sure neither our media nor yours comes close to telling us the whole story. I know that there is another side to the issue and that many Tibetans have prospered. But the cost is far too high. The number of Tibetans from all walks of life who have risked so much to protest recently convinces me that this is the case. So many Tibetans have risked their lives to escape Tibet that life there must be very hard. I have met Tibetan people whose stories of hardship would break your heart.

Q:So many Tibetans have risked their lives to escape Tibet that life there must be very hard. I have met Tibetan people whose stories of hardship would break your heart.

A: In 1959,seveval thousands(i dont have the precise fingers) of tibetan fled to India contrast to 1.4million people living in tibet.
In 2008, 100 more thousands exiled tibetan chinese are outside of China contrast to 6million of who living in tibet.
We have railway to Lasha now, you can imagine how hard to build this railway in the world roof! it thanks the Han people to finance and support to build this railway.
I visited Lasha last year, there are 1500 temples more there, there are many monks there, statistics shows the rate of monk to the population is 1% more.the monks are actually do not make any job other than to worship, it is other people to support their life. tibetan population is about 90%. the governer of tibet is tibetan in the automous region of China. living in the world roof, due to the harsh geographical condition, life is relative harder compare to other region in china. but they have enough food to eat, enough cloth to dress.
recently years, the GDP of tibet are growing faster, last year the rate is 13%.
China is large country of huge population, i will not surprised that there are few of individuals who claim to independance. however, just like that in your country, there is no way for independence if majority of people refuse.
frankly, I know little about Dalai's life in recent years, but the fact i know he was the biggest serf owner when he ruled tibet. even that, the central government has open the door of face to face dialogue.
Relegion is separate with politics, that is basic principle in modern society.
if Dalai want restore her old system, i think no one in tibet will agree except her few exiled followers.

1.
> In 2008, 100 more thousands exiled tibetan chinese are outside of >China contrast to 6million of who living in tibet.

That is bacause china packed Tibet with the non-Tibetan chinese. china could do the same to any other country; there are plenty of chinese to do it.

2.
>We have railway to Lasha now,...

The Tibetans did not ask for it, in fact, it might have destroyed their way of life.

Yes, but the chinese did not do it as an act of altruism. The resources of Tibet could not be stripped without an efficient means of transportation.

3.
>statistics shows the rate of monk to the population is 1% more.the >monks are actually do not make any job other than to worship,

Are you saying that the chinese government has the right to determine the right monks-to-people ratio in any sovereign land? First you occupy their land, then you flood the land with your people, then you rape the land by indiscriminate use, and now strictures on monks? Who the hell do you think the chinese government is to prevent monks from praying?

4.
>the governer of tibet is tibetan in the automous region of China.

You can always find Judas' or Benedict Arnolds' in any people, and you found them.

5.
>life is relative harder compare to other region in china. but they >have enough food to eat, enough cloth to dress.

You might have personally made a trade-off between food and basic human rights. That is your decision. Neither you nor the chinese government has the right to bribe the population with food or anything else as a trade-off with basic hunam freedoms.

This chinese trick has obviously not worked, otherwise there would have been no agitations for freedom in Tibet.

6.
>the GDP of tibet are growing faster, last year the rate is 13%.

If any one should care, it is the Tibetans. And they have soundly made their viwes known. The whole world has mnade its views known. china
is an occupier in Tibet, and chinese attempts to revive old-style colonialism will in the long run fail, as it has everywhere elase in the world.

7.
>I know little about Dalai's life in recent years, but the fact i know >he was the biggest serf owner when he ruled tibet.

china is the biggest serf-owner in the world. And is this one of the lies that your masters in Peking fed you?

In the long run, serfs will revolt anywhere. When are the chinese serfs rising to protest their shackles?

8.
>Relegion is separate with politics, that is basic principle in modern >society. if Dalai want restore her old system, i think no one in >tibet will agree except her few exiled followers.

More and more chinese lies. Is there a separation of religion and politics in china? If so, why are the chinese harrassing the Falungong, the Catholic church, and ALL religions?

Don't spread lies about Dalai Lama wanting to revive the "old system".

And give a religious figure that he is, show some respect that any religious person deserves. Call him Dalai Lama. The whole world respects him, and so should the chinese.

And stop exporting chinese lies!

John the gardener says, "Free Tibet!"

Sherry, the post which has been removed was an appeal by the Dalai Lama to the people of China. I hope it is returned. The number of Tibetans who succeed in escaping into exile each year is only a small percentage of the total population. But I suspect that an exodus of similar proportions from any country in the world would signal a serious problem in that country. It is imposible to say how many people suceed in escaping from Tibet, or how many die in the attempt. A group of would-be refugees was filmed by a European mountain climbing expedition as they struggled through a high mountain pass, the Nangpa Pass. You can see the video (unless this too is removed by the moderators) on Youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzCl95A90P0&feature=related

To call the Dalai Lama a serf owner is simply nonsense. People who do not understand religious devotion may find it difficult to imagine why others give freely to figures representing high spiritual attainment. It is hard to understand that giving in such a context is not a burden; it is a joy. Last year, a group of monks came to the area where I live. I can tell you sincerely that I tried hard to help them in any way that I could and was happy to sacrifice my time and my money to try to make their visit a happy one. I do not consider myself a serf or consider myself to have been exploited by the monks. On the contrary, I consider it a great honour and a rare privilege that I will treasure.

.From what I remember (not read ) in 1959 all of the Tibetan people wanted to escape out of Chinese hands and only a few managed it , myself I was enjoying listening to Elvis, I guess Sherry 2 your forefathers (serfs) the lot were busy melting down there good metal or cutting trees to fire their hand made kilns because their masters told them to , and that 4000000 people died because of hunger , you would think China might have learned from their own mistakes by now smiley - sadface

some facts:
1) territory: China:9.6million KM2, 40 times of England.
2) pepople:13.5 billion , E:0.6 billion, 24 times
3) 56 ethnic minorities, your country?
we have traitors, prisoners, but these finger multiply 40, you can compare with your fingers.
if 12 exiled tibetan can separate China, you can imagine how many country will be established? that is 1350000000/120000=? IS THAT WHAT YOU REALLY WANT?
We just want to a peace life, please do not against us whatever the excuse is.

One can compare the life in tibet now and those people under the rule of exiled government, who is better?

we can solve promblem by ourself, no matter of internal and external ones.

Sherry2,

It is a miracle that chinese have multiplied many times over so quickly.

The scare tactic of fragmentation of lands does not work. It did not work in Yugoslavia, and it did not work in USSR. People everywhere hanker for freedom, and china is no exception. The government can put a lid on unrest for only so long. One of these days, when the pressure gets too high, the chinese will rebel, and it is then that all the ethnics who have been herded by the government will separate (as in Yugoslavia, where the Serbs, Croats, ... have their own countries).

And providing food/shelter/healthcare too does not work. Life was simple but good under USSR, but people wanted freedom there.

And, do you have any response to post 15?
