I guess ignorance is bliss in china.

Wasn't it the great chinese icon, Mao Tse Tung, who once said that the more you read the dumber you get, and then drove all the intelligentia to the rural farms through the great cultural revolution, which was neither but a triumph of thuggery that is now being re-enacted in Tibet?

Yes.
He diod not give you ignorance. Your government did; has been doling it out for nearly 60 years.
No, we are not arrogant, just honest. Truth does hurt, and that's why your government is always hiding facts from you.

I was only responding to your blaming God for your ignorance.
I did not mean to say you were ignorant.

And I meant your government has been stoking ignorance by hiding facts from the Chinese people. There is a saying in the west that sunshine is the best anti-septic. Dictatorships hate sunshine because it makes them look bad.

I have no problems people disagreeing with me. That is the essence of democracy. However, blind faith in one's government is a very dangerous thing as the case of the German people leading to WW2 has demonstrated.

You have been probably the most understanding of the Chinese people who have sent messages on this board. Thank you.

Thank you for your messages these days.It really help me a lot.
Let's try to understand each other.
We both hate dictatorships !We both love sunshine!

I know some words of you are right and true. However,if you donot mind, please try to understand the feeling of us and use the words carefully if you want to talk about period of cultural revolution. For example, besause of cultural revolution,my father was driven to Inner Mongolia by force. He had been doing heavy physical work for 9 years .It was a very very terrible experience.
So,i felt very uncomfortable when i saw the words "a triumph of thuggery "
Many Chinese people have the same feeling.please try to understand.
If i have some misunderstanding,i am very sorry.
I know some of our opinions maybe wrong besause we are not live in a democratic society.smiley - smiley

xianfansean,

I am glad there are people in China who also believe that "cultural revolution" was a colossal mistake. Unfortunately, the possibility of similar mistakes has not been eradicated. The same undemocratic government rules puting on a smile but carries a big stick.

The tragedy is that while many people have the opinion you have, they have not risen to protest the government. As I said before, in the west we have a glorious tradition that one has a moral obligation to fight unjust laws and rule. Mahatma Gandhi, though educated in Britain, borrowed this philosophy due to Henry David Thoreau in his freedom struggle. There is no reason why the chinese people can not get rid of the current colonisers.

On the one hand,i am agree with your opinion.it is true that in the west people have a glorious tradition that one has a moral obligation to fight unjust laws and rule.Chinese people must learn this .

On the other hand, majortso,i must remind you a fact that in our country which has 2000 years of Absolute monarchy , fighting unjust laws and rule may pay a heavy price because our goverment is so strong ,controling everything in the soicety.Fighting for freedom in our country is not easy.Do you know how many people died for againsting unjust laws and rule in "cultural revolution" ?At that time ,everything was controlled by goverment and people even didnot have private property .They had nothing .Facing a so powful goverment, many people still chose to fight. It is really brave.
I think the condition in your country is different.

Nowadays, many people choose improving step by step instead of "fighting "or "revolution" because we have experienced so many bloody fighting and revolution in last 100 years. Many people living in China just want to enjoy peaceful life and belive democratic system will come one day by changing step by step.
