I've read the books, listened to the radio series and watched the TV series, but I don't remember Humma Kavula???

Apparently he's some new character, a religious cult leader or something written and added by Douglas specifically for the film.

maybe he comes from one of the groups at 'Milliways' and now has a bigger part.

He will be played by John Malkovich. Maybe the part was written with that in mind, I'm not sure....

Humma Kavula is referred to as a 'cult leader' or 'crazed missionary'. He was a new character created by Douglas in one of his drafts in order to give the plot a little more shape. He's the nearest the movie has to a 'bad guy'. He wasn't written with John Malkovich in mind - at least, I never heard Douglas suggest that - although it *is* inspired casting.
There are other new characters in the movie. The Vice-President, called Questular, appears (played by Anna Chancellor), and there are lots of Vogons. The movie follows in the grand tradition of Hitchhiker's in that it's different from any of the other versions, just like the books differed quite dramatically from the radio series. That's one of the many things that make the movie such an exciting prospect - the fact that we'll get to see something new written by Douglas.

So in the true spirit of HHGG this version is going to flatly contradict all that has gone before it? Excellent!

How could a movie be anything other than apocryphal? Or, at least, wildly inaccurate...

Actually now the name does sound familiar, was'nt he the second worst poet in the galaxy or something???

That was Grunthos The Flatulent.
I'm wondering what's being done for the score; if they've picked a big-beat combo to re-jig Journey Of The Sorcerer (The Eagles track which became the Guide theme, as can be found on the album One Of These Nights, pop-pickers) to give it the reverent but chartable treatment, as done with Lost In Space (Apollo 440), The Saint (Orbital), Mission Impossible etc.
If they want to save dosh by getting a dedicated amateur on board, doing it for the love, that might be a good move (points at self).

Got it, he wrote the three books about god (god's greatest mistakes, more of god's greatest mistakes and who is this god person anyways?) which did'nt sell as well as the guide!!!

I think you'll find that you're thinking of Oolon Colluphid.
....and it's a good thing that the plots of the radio series, TV series and books all differed becuase that way I can't get annoyed that the film is different from the book. And at least this way it will be properly different so I don't have to be annoyed that the Vogon's will look nothing like they do in my imagination.

Ah! Journey Of The Sorcerer! I've been making a mental note to myself for ages to find out what the theme song was, thanks!

Who could possibly replace Zarquon?
No, Humma Kavula isn't there in place of anything, he's a new character with his own part of the story.

Zarquon only a had a one line:
"Sorry I'm late, something came up and the last minute, how am I for time?"

His singing fish was mentioned in the Marble Nutrimatic Cup suspended 13 miles above the planet Brontitall.

The blue guy from this picture in Phantom Menace will be playing a Vogon Guard, so says MJ Simpson's site.
