Being a grandparent (or even a parent)

BigAl Patron Saint of Left Handers Keeper of the Glowing Pickle and Monobrows

We are the grandparents of a two and a half year old little boy. WE are currently looking after him while our daughter (an unmarried mum) is attending a midwifery degree at University. She comes home and looks after him at week ends, gicving us a much-needed rest.

Duriung the week our house looks a complete tip, with toys all over the floor in the living room smiley - sadface. Last year we had our house professionally decorated from top to bottom (before we knew we would be looking after grandson!)as we thought that, with our children off our hands, we had some time and space to ourselves.

Every now and again we have to tell grandson off for drawing on the walls smiley - steam; hence I can relate very well to this snippet which I read in the 'Out of the Mouths of Babes'column in tyhe Daily Mail:

"Our friends decidedc to have a serious chat with their two year old son after he had drawn all over the bedroom wall.

'Come here George' said Daddy.
'What's that' (pointing at the wall)

George, proudly, 'A frog'.smiley - rofl

However, I must say that I'm more 'laid back' about such thngs now than I was when my own children were small. I frequently think of those less fortunate than ourselves who are unable to have children, or whose choldren have incurable genetic diseases or, even worse, those whose children have been killed in some accident or other. This certainly puts minor daily problems into an entirely different perspective.

yeah, but they're your GRANDKIDS! Something about that is jsut somehow more endearing then your own kids. Then again, that extra stuff probbly dissolves once you have them for a week straight.
Goodluck.

Still am there, just frequenting a net cafe cuz Ihave nothing better waste my time and money on. smiley - ok
Probably wont be here often, but hey, here I am now.
Bet the kids are cute.
What's up?
I'm learning French from my roommates, and otherwise attempting not to snooze through classes... I shouldn't tell that to a teacher, right? smiley - winkeye
Also enjoying the foreign environment, so I shouldn't complain if school is too easy.
The most fun is being told by the Swiss and French and English and South African and Australian how absollutely uneducated I am, simply by virtue of being American. (Ex: "You mean you know where Alcase-Lorraine is?!" and, "Yes, but you dont learn about 'i' in math, right?" and "Wow, you learn about the French revolution?")
running out of time,
enjoy life, and having the grandkids strictly on the fridge now! smiley - winkeye (At least, that's where my parents like to keep the pics. easier to show off.)
