I think you were probably too nice to throw it in the dump. Maybe running it over a few times with a steam-roller would have been more appropriate. Perhaps the end result would have been something that could be framed and sold at auction for millions! You never know.
Some might be tempted to say "How dare you throw away a perfectly good computer! Give it to a school or to the poor!" Well, I'd love to show these people exactly what happens when you give a computer to a school. It's a long, uncomfortable tale of bureaucracy... and the end result is usually that the machine in question is stored away in a damp room where mice live, while the school buys hundreds of brand new units with taxpayers' money. As for the poor, they like being poor. If they didn't want to be poor, they'd go out and do something about it. So they certainly don't want computers.
