On a more serious note (I'm really not going to the party, that was a joke just to wind up a few people) I think the response from writers is great. Have you thought about doing a press release emphasising their support? I am quite happy to do a draft for general consideration if no-one else is.

OK Scamp, Touch; but would a wee apology be forthcoming first from you for all the slagging some of us have got unnecessarily?? Would be in your favour, ye know... Anyway - to the subject at hand: There was some sort of 'Press release' being drawn up by RightLittleMadame and Fidgit. Think you'll find the bare bones of it from the 'Save Get Writing Community' threads from this one link. Includes 'Contacting Authors', 'iCan', 'Press Release' & 'Let Battle Begin' (Suggestions, I think): http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/getwriting/F1958651... Also, I posted up an idea on this thread this morn, what do you think? http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/getwriting/F1703092?thread=577581&post=6534960#p6534960 Would you be happy enough to do this as it would be well appreciated. Maybe see if you can find RLM, (she's a journalist too, I believe), and Fidgit as I don't know if they are still working on it or not. Haven't heard. I gotta run now but let me know how you get on and keep me posted. Thanks. Now you see this apology, well?????

So the snog's on?

More seriously, I am sorry if you think I was having a go at you. I wasn't. I think your committment and achievements are deomonstrable and fair play to you. I'm not sure that's true across the board - and I exepct you know what i mean here.

I'll draft a release based on the writer's replies and you should have it on Monday. after that i'm not precious about it being reworked. Stephen Fry - from what i've seen - is the angle.

As to apology, well I stand by what I've said.

But it's been said now and I'm not going to reiterate it as long as certain people don't start doing their look at me I'm showboating again routine!

Scampmeister it seems obvious to everyone that I am the sole object of your criticism so I would like you explain to me what exactly I have done to deserve this.

Your posts have been nasty and hurtful and I think I am owed an explanation. I have offerred to talk to you in private on Writersdock but you have ignored me. Maybe you need an audience so lets talk about it here.

I look forward to your answer,

Kitty

Well. I have a fairly passionate view as to how GW could have been promoted. I am not sure that, once the decision had been made, it could have been saved.

My problems with you you - frankly about you taking on the role, you did bugger all. I sympathise and as I said at the time, it was going to be thankless. But don't use it as a fashion statement. I'm going to shut up about it anyway, as I said to PenJen I've said all I'm going to say. I think the majority was on your side any way!

I also dislike the fact that you seem to have a dialogue with the arbiters of this site which allows you to have postings you dislike removed.

As to doing things in public...well my hotmail adrdres is [email protected] we can talk via that

I am not quite sure what role you thought I had taken on but I would like to point out clearly what I said I would do.

1) I volunteered to chair a meeting on GW about the closure - this I did and I also wrote the minutes - both are available to read on Wordplay.

2) At the meeting I said I would set up a groups in the Groups section which would write a letter to the BBC to put our case - I did this it is called - 'Campaign to Save GW' - many people have joined it. The letter was put together and sent out by Gregory N once all the information had been gathered.

3) I volunteered to start a thread about the Jeremy Vine show as they were discussing writing the next day. I did this - some people, including me, tried to ring the show - I seem to remember Mark Pettifer got through and spoke to someone but nothing else happened.

That's it - that's all I said I would do. Lots of other people were doing other things. I ended up trying to put links to them all on my portfolio as I was getting asked lots of questions there.

I never promised to save GW single-handedly - or co-ordinate what everybody on GW wanted to do. Lots of people asked me after the meeting if there were jobs to do - if I knew of something that wasn't being done I suggested they did it, if not I told them.

If you felt I did 'bugger all' that's your opinion and you are entitled to it, other people think differently, I'm really not bothered either way. I did what I could and I am content that at least I tried to do something.

I do not have a dialogue with the eds/mods or anyone else - to be honest this idea is laughable. I doubt the eds would give me the time of day!

Sorry I won't be emailing - but thanks for the offer.

Kitty

OK, don't think you two will ever se eye to eye, tooth to tooth... Real pity, as time is so short in here now.

Kitty; you know how most of us have held high regard for all that you have done and are doing and that is what counts.

Scamp; let's all just agree to disagree and put all our energies in to what we now need to do, please.

Touché? smiley - peacedove

So Scamp, How are you getting on with drafting up the Press Release? Well, since yesterday I have added four more names to the petition, and three more writers' comments; one from our own GW published author, (Kate Long aka Nemo), so that may be another angle to use. Plus Writers' News sent me a note today to say that they are including a piece in their March edition about GW, although the BBC refused to comment. Star has managed to secure a slot on Radio 4 and is waiting for them to get back in touch with her. The thread is: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/getwriting/F1703092?thread=586416 And check out post 6, from Kitty, with vital links. Greg's letter is excellent and covers almost everything plus he got a reply to it from the powers that be. Also, Serin is willing to send the completed 'Press Release' to the Australian ABC Network when it's ready. And Kitty is drawing up all the GW member's names from the three petitions - 460, isn't it, and counting? Also, hoping to insert this and all the authors comments unto the iCan Campaign Forum, although I'm still unsure as how to do it without it appearing crowded. Will have a better look at it tomorrow, or do you know of anyone else who would be willing to check it out and more in the techno know-how? If you need me to help in any further way, please do gimme a shout. Only nine weeks to go... Good luck, Jen
