From what I've heard, Stonehenge and all other similar structures throughout Europe are basically calendars to mark solstices and to be a guide to the ancient farmers who built them. When to plant, when to harvest, all manner of things still marked on some calendars today.

Others, Chariots of the Gods, talk of them being used for navigational purposes by early UFO pilots. They probably don't need such basic methods nowadays.
