A Conversation for Global Warming

It's cause has been laid at the feet of everything from heavy industry to termite farts. All in all, I'd say that pretty much narrows it down!
Myself, I'm with you. Just exactly what IS wrong with global warming? We still get ice storms in central Alabama. Until that stops, it's not warm enough!

Ooooh there is a lot wrong with global warming. You know those ice storms will probably increase in number if the world keeps on warming. More warmth, more water in the air, more turbulent weather.
The problem is that no one really knows what is causing it. As an astronomer, I have heard it suggested (plausably I might add) that this is the result of a normal fluctuation in the Sun, and that it is just a little hotter than it usually is.
I think that we may just have to deal with it, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't stop polluting the air.

It's also said normal historical shifts in ocean currents would be much more devistating to our climate. I hate to say it, but cutting pollution should be done for it's own sake, not for any effect it might have on meteorology.
Carbon dioxide is one of the more benign of the toxic chemicals we release into the atmosphere.(In this case "toxic" is a relative term....I'm sure plants would not agree with that opinion.) While changes in climate might be difficult for life to adjust to, some of the other stuff we pump out would make adjustment downright impossible.
What I wish those who have the power would do, is stop the thin scare tactics, and stick to the facts they KNOW are a problem. The average man in the street out here is a lot smarter than the activists seem to think, and cooperation on controlling the problem will only be accomplished by giving him credit for his intelligence.
"Smoke and mirrors" were found out long ago, so most of us know when we're being "snookered". Most people will resist any correct move if the motivation is seen as somewhat shady. To me, and others I know, the global warming warning is just that...sure, it could be a problem....but it's being used primarily as hype. There are many other BETTER reasons. Hype them.

I agree, but the fact of the matter is that if we don't make any environmental fight seem absolutely critical to the lives of our honorable (and I use the term in the loosest possible sense) congressmen, they would take the money that the industry lobbyists are offering to vote down environmental legislation. Many do anyway.

You have a very good point. With the "government system" we have, overkill is the only way to get anything done. Trouble is, To get to the ones with the financing, we tend to allienate the grassroots people you need to make the plan work.
Catch 22
