Jimbob - Got a Favourite Band? Tell Us All About It at A2464355

Hi Rich,

Sorry for the late response old chap, don't always check my PS as often as I should.

I haven't caught the video for Stacy's Mom yet, though now I come to think of it it's on the cd single I have at home - I'll check it tonight. Rachel Hunter is one of Rod the Mod's cast offs isn't she?

Fountains of Wayne are a cracking band - I'm really hoping that Stacy's Mom gets them a load of sales cos they're too good to remain underground. And I can say 'I was into them from the beginning'!

I am into my alt-country - I've got Ryan Adams on my walkman today. I do catch bits of Bob Harris' show from time to time.

I'm amused that you've migrated over from Radio 2 'cos it's too argumentative... can't imagine all those Togs getting angry. Do tell.

Anyway, take it easy....

Jimbob

Hi Jimbob

I have to reveal that I don't own a home PC, so can only post on a local library terminal when library is open & local server is working!

It wasn't the Togs causing trouble on the Radio 2 message boards, in fact it was a very abusive minority who were violently objecting to Stuart Maconie on Drivetime. Fortunately Johnnie Walker is back so the Message Boards have calmed down.

I hadn't heard of Fountains of Wayne at the start so I've got all that lovely back-catalogue to collect. Also, I've only just bought my first Loudon Wainwright III CD (So Damn Happy - Live) and I guess I've got about 20 CDs to collect in Loudon's back-catalogue...

I've never been a fan of Whiskeytown but even I have to admit Ryan Adams's Gold CD is fantastic!

No worries Rich, I only tend to be on hootoo when I'm at work myself. It staves off the boredom.smiley - smiley

I still can't get my head around Radio 2 listeners getting all het up over Stuart Maconie, who I thought was just fine on Drivetime - I like his music choices better than Johnny Walker, for a start. smiley - ok What was their problem? And it wasn't as if Walker was off air against his will and Maconie had usurped him... weird.

Anyway, I've started a little shrine to the underappreciated band at A2464355. Fountains are only 3 albums old - not a massive investment and well worth it. Grab any singles you can find as well! smiley - ok

Ryan Adams' solo stuff is pretty good - it's worth getting Demolition (allegedly an 'outakes and b sides' album with better songs than other people's full albums) and his solo debut Heartbreaker. I haven't got his most recent stuff yet - soon....smiley - biggrin

Stay froody

Hi Jimbob

Strangely enough, the main Stuart-Maconie-hater is a 35-year-old Essex lad who, sadly, doesn't seem to be articulate enough to pin down exactly why he hates Stu (general reason given is that Stu is "dire, dismal & appalling"...).

Even more strangely enough, I really enjoyed the music during Noel Edmonds's summer stint on Drivetime - I can remember he played 'Chemistry' by Semisonic, 'Sweet Tequila Blues' by Chip & Carrie, 'Six O'Clock News' by Kathleen Edwards, loads of Thea Gilmore stuff, and made a point of praising all that music to the skies.

The only pity was that Noel seemed to think he was the STAR of the show, rather than the HOST of the show, and it took him 20 minutes each evening to get the feeble jokes out of his system.

I've checked out your FoW page and the Chili Peppers response. So far, I have only collected 'Interstate Managers', 'FoW', the 'Stacy' single, and Chili Peppers greatest hits, so I've still got loads of other lovely stuff to collect.

Oh, my credit card...smiley - sadface
