Well, I thought it was a housewarming party. When I got there, I discovered it was also a birthday party and an engagement party. They're jugglers (she's a professional (we built her company's website), and he's started as a hobby since meeting her), so there was juggling to accompany the music. There was a rather excellent band (family members and friends of the family: they got the bongo drummers to join them toward the end). Then the band went to bed and the bongo drummers took over. This was all happening in the heated and beautifully decorated big top in the back garden.

There were some interesting people (juggler's friends often are, I imagine), and his family went to my primary school. His sister was in my class; I hadn't seen her since. Had a good chat with her. And with her boyfriend: interesting guy. What happens when an ex-Witness atheist meets an ex-Baptist spiritualist? We start talking about a Jungian analysis of the book of Job, of course.

Another chap got drunk and started going on about Chomsky. You've got to respect a chap who raves about Chomsky when he's drunk. Later on, in the early hours, he was discussing the quality of Galway gay bars. He and one of the girls decided that any official gay venue in Galway becomes a "pile of poo".
