Just sent this off to the beeb via the main website comments section (http://www.bbc.co.uk/feedback/bbci_comment.shtml):
"The BBC's h2g2.com will soon be reaching its eight thousandth Edited Guide Entry (the current number can be seen at http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/info?cmd=tae ). For comparison, wikipedia.org has only around 1050 Featured Articles (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Featured_articles ). In my opinion, h2g2.com deserves some kind of recognition when it reaches this milestone - a mention on the bbc homepage or something similar would be well-received by all those who have worked hard to get the unique online encyclopedia this far."
Any good, or is it just a hopeless idea?
Alex

I'm not really here Posted Jul 24, 2006
There was an article about some woman and her retired racing Greyhound on the News pages the other day. No contact details where I could email and ask for a link to my entry to be added!

Is there going to be a prize for the 8000th entry? Like, a t-shirt or a pen or £50,000?

Great idea, Alex! Hope it works!
I wouldn't be surprised if the italics have a little something in mind already.

Well done Alex. Will you get a direct reply from the bbc do you think?
How far away is #8000? A month and a bit?

See the <./>Info</.> page - at 3 entries a day / 5 days per week we should be there on Friday 11th of August-ish. I'll probably miss it

Tomorrow morning looks like. No guesses, but if it's a certain someone, we'll never hear the end of it
