I posted this over on fluid spirituality, I'll put it here too, from my other forum on protection: http://p072.ezboard.com/fthesanctuary87377frm14.showMessage?topicID=1.topic
Another way is to focus on highest good and love, but do be careful.
There's something about this thread that makes me feel a tad uneasy and unwilling to take part. I'll try and explain.
1 It seems that people are all talking about something slightly different.
2 I don't do 'magic' thought. Though we are incredibly powerful in many ways, attempts to impose one's will on the universe tend to come back and bite you on the bum.
3 Thought is a very poweful thing, and creative visualisation can work very well in terms of clarifying what is going on inside, as personal intent, but not as some sort of attempt to influence others.
4 The parking place thing I've used for years. I don't feel the Source/universe/God/whatever you like objects too much to something of such a nature, but I would rather try and discern the pattern of things and go with that than attempt to influence.
5 I've spent my life not being able to shut the thoughts and feelings of others out, so I am a little reluctant to open myself to people here I don't really know. I'm sure you are all quite lovely, but I'm not prepared to take the risk.
Sorry to sound like a killjoy, just being honest.

Let me make myself clear about my intent. I do not plan to try to impose my will on anyone. I am not interested in casting spells, hexing individuals or causing someone to fall in love with my cousin Jane.
This would be an exercise to try to test the power of the mind outside of religious or spiritual boundaries. I'm not interested in asking God or spiritual guides or angels for assistance or intervention. I want to know if the power of our minds can create a positive outcome.
I apologize for the confusion, which I caused by talking about more than one thing.
I have long believed that the mind - properly focused - is capable of incredible things. I have also suspected that most of the cases of faith healing that actually succeed do so because of the belief of the participants - not because of any intervention by a higher power.
I also think that if we could demonstrate that a group of secular individuals focusing their energy on a problem can create a positive result it would be taken more seriously by the scientific community than if the same result is achieved by focused prayer where the credit is given to God.
If we can harnass our minds to heal - both physically and psychologically - then we should be doing so. But I don't intend for this group - if we ever get enough participants - to focus on healing. That's why I'd like to begin with a simple experiment of some kind that can't be interpreted as involving faith.
Momenta, Abbi, I don't want you or anyone else to participate in something that makes you uncomfortable. As to imposing our will on the universe...we are the universe. Every time we artifically light a room or take an aspirin or plant a seed, we are influencing the universe. In my opinion trying to find out how the universe works is a worthwhile endeavor. And learning what our minds are capable of achieving is important.
Ok, this has gotten long and I apologize. But I want to say one more thing as clarification of my intentions. People who conduct organized experiments of this nature seem to fall into two groups. There are the true believers who want to prove the power of divine intervention and their counterparts who are hostile to the concept and want to debunk all of it. I really wish there was an organization of people who simply want the truth - no matter what that turns out to be. If focused prayer works but strictly secular visualization doesn't, then we should know that. If both work equally well then we should know that as well. If neither work well enough to show any kind of consistent results, then we should know that too.

Thanks Hypatia for that explanation
It was not too long! I wanted to know all of that anyway.
I understand your mission now.
I like the idea of the experiment.
Most people would be interested enough to want to read the outcome, no matter where they stand.
I suppose the bottom line for me is I cannot operate without the spiritual part of me. I am never sure where it starts and ends, I think it's inseperable throughout me.
I do love science so that is why I was interested enough to ask for more information.
Good Luck Hypatia

Thanks both
If I may I'd like to just watch what goes on here, then I can be a little thorn in the flesh from time to time, if that's alright Hyp

Well, unless some more people show up there won't be an experiment.
And you may be a thorn in my side whenever you wish.

Good. Thanks. That's four. I'll check with a couple of folks I know who haven't joined this conversation yet and see if they might be interested. If the rest of you know someone on site who might be interested, please invite them. We can go ahead and start setting up the experiment and start with the four of us if we have to.
Witty, I saw a cute t-shirt that I wish I had bought. Is says Re-Defeat the President.

Hi Hipatia,
yes there were other people with me visualising for my wife. Strangely there were two completely seperate groups. One group allied to a church, the other secular but all were friends of ours and we 'met' by bringing our thoughts and or prayers together at the same time each evening. I would be interested in being part of an experiment but not for something trivial like trying to control the roll of a dice.
