Hi! I'm always happy to find another lover of showtunes on this site, so it's nice to meet you!
I like most Broadway musicals, and as you can tell by my name, I like all kinds of Broadway trivia. I love Rodgers and Hammerstein and and most of their contemporaries, Frank Loesser, Cole Porter, etc. I also like Stephen Sondheim, although he has taken a long while to grow on me. Andrew Lloyd-Webber is amazing. Some of my favorite musicals are Phantom of the Opera, Oklahoma!, The Music Man, Guys and Dolls, West Side Story, Cats, The Sound of Music, Sunday in the Park with George…
What musicals do you like? (I must say, your owning of Sound of Music in both mono and stereo has me beat!)

I'm going to have to go home and write them down, but off the top of my head:
My Fair Lady
Chitty chitty bang bang
Oklahoma
Phantom of the Opera
South Pacific
Fiddler on the Roof
any many more(some quite weird)
I'll check the rest out later cos I need to go for lunch now before I run out of time.
Yayyyyy!!!!! Another showtune lover!

I've wanted to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang ever since I read about it, but until it comes to Broadway I'll have to wait…
There's lots of weird musicals I like; at the top of the list (at the moment) is The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Just try me…

I had a quick browse over the weekend and noticed Showboat and Dr Zhivago lurking, I think a lot of mine are musicals rather than show tunes as such, looking at the CD collection I have recently purchased the soundtrack for Amelie, Moulin Rouge and Chicago. I'm always up for listening to anything really but I love the positive vibe that you get from showtunes and musicals. I used to have Chess but I think my mother pinched it off me.The trouble is i've got so many records and CDs that it's difficult to see whats there.

Joseph's one of my favorites!
I personally would define a "showtune" as any song from a musical, although that does present a few difficulties; for example, are Billy Joel's songs now considered showtunes because a bunch of them are used in the musical Movin' Out? I guess to be clearer I should say I'm a musical-lover.
Key: Complain about this post
