Susanne - if it ain't broke, break it! Started conversation Jan 30, 2004
just been to music school, where I'm taking piano lessons. I think I will stop it this year, I don't have enough time to practise any more ( that's my excuse for lazyness ).
but I'm also not getting along with my teacher very well. I hate to disappoint him, but sometimes I have these days where I can't play a single note right. Then he loses his temper.
but I will forget about that for the moment and slowly turn towards a peaceful weekend.
maybe I'll start with a new book, something funny...

scuse me for buttin in .....but..(I added you to my fwends list, so I can lurk)
If you enjoy your lessons then continue, you will always find time for something that you enjoy, if you don't then don't bother!
Teachers shouldn't use their tempers, they should support you.
Have a good weekend!

I, too have such woes with my teacher. I have been taking lessons for over a year now. I would never even consider giving up, though. I have learned far more than just music by playing piano. I have learned to be tenacious and in the words of Churchill 'Never, never, never give up'.
When my teacher gets the needle with me, she kicks me off the piano mid lesson and starts bashing out some Chopin! Its worth letting her do it, just to get the old girl back on an even keel.
Can you change your lessons to fornightly rather than weekly if you are finding it difficult to find the time to practice? 2 weeks to learn a piece will have you more likely to play it perfectly when you go.

I should be more careful with my journal, I'm always exagerating, and my teacher is a good one, too. I just write down something when I'm carried away with my emotions. you should see my diary, or rather not. things in it that even I am ashamed to look at again!
about learning other things with music: my teacher told me once a theory, which I find very interresting. with music, you can learn something for life, you learn that you're just one part of the whole. I guess in playing in an orchestra it is more evident, but even while playing the piano, you have to accept that one has a more important role, one a not so important one. you can't just be so self-centred to say "I'm playing the leading role", sometimes another way is better. if you play Schubert or Chopin with both hands equally loud, it sounds like a mess.
