That was quick, rejection was yesterday, admission today!
It's official, I'm becoming Bavarian! I'm going to move to the lovely(?) little town of Passau, on the border to Austria. About 650 kilometers from my hometown Oh, now I'm getting all nervous...
My course of studies has the overwhelming title "Bachelor in Governance and Public Policy - Staatswissenschaften" And it's a mixture of Politics, Sociology, History, Economics and Public Law.
Excited!

Hi MV!
The rejection came from Berlin, the acceptance letter came from Bavaria. (I think) Personally I think great things await her there!

Feeling a little dizzy..
Strangely Bavaria is just the English name, in German it's plain Bayern .
Oooh, they talk differently there, I am told Might need a dictionary..and oh my God, it's freezing there I love heat, should have applied at university of california And such a little town! I'm really spoiled with big cities and infrastructure all around, how am I gonna survive? I have this vision of Passau as a village in a lonely forest with mountains...
I haven't got the slightest idea how I'm going to move all my stuff cross country..or even find a flat!
Where to start with the planning?

My goodness, I hadn't even gotten the chance to offer my condolences on your "rejection", and now congratulations are in order!
I'm sure it's going to be overwhelming- even a bit frightening- planning for such a big move to such a different place. I can especially understand your trepidation at relocating to a small town when you're accustomed to urban life. But I'm sure it's going to be worth it!
Good luck with finding a flat, and the packing and moving stuff. And congratulations on your acceptance!
Keep us all posted as to developments, please!

Yay! Thank you all!
I'm still jumping around with excitement
I just read that the application time for a place in the student's- hall of residence(?) is over, so I probably will get no room in a dormitory and have to rent a flat on my own. I think this is a bit different in England and USA, at least that's what you see in the films , students only ever live in halls of residence on the campus. Well, universities here hardly provide any rooms for the students, you are expected to manage everything yourself. A friend told me, I don't know if this is exagerated, but for the 60.000 students at Cologne University, there are only 4000 rooms available in such residences.
But I would enjoy a flat of my own more, anyway. Probably.

I wonder if there is some kind of organisation that lets the students get together and do shared renting?

It might be a good idea to call the school and ask?

There are of course lots of flat-sharing communities out there, but as I know nobody, I don't know what freaks I might move in with and share a bath with...As soon as I know some decent freaks, I could change my housing situation. I'm afraid I'm a bit too timid to move in with total strangers.

I looked up Passau on the map. It really is right on the border! Doesn't look too terribly far from Munich if you wanted to head to a big city for a weekend. (But maybe it is farther than it looks on the map?)

I think there must be an intercity train to Munich...that would certainly be an option . Vienna seems a little further away, though. I got some information about the town today, I had asked the tourist information there to send me some brochures. I also set up a time schedule: I have to register personally in the week between 13th to 17th march, so I will go down there with my Mum for a week, during which I will look at as many flats as possible and chose the best I can find. Then we'll come back, I'm packing my stuff, aranging everything with insurance etc. 1st april I'll go again with Mum & car, moving in. 1st is also officially start of term, but lectures won't start until 2 or 3 weeks later. Until then, I need to get my time-table sorted, and possibly some pre-courses(?) and I think an English test, to see on which level I am.
