A Conversation for Talking Point: Graffiti
Historical Graffiti

Graffiti is not a modern malaise... it has been happening for centuries.
I believe (though have not had time to check) that there was some discovered at Vindolanda - a roman ruin along Hadrian's Wall. I can't remember what it said... but I am fairly sure it wasn't "For a good time, see Octavia in Hut number III" or "Caesar was 'ere".
And I know for a fact (cos I saw it with my own eyes) that in the library at the Kings School, Grantham, Lincolnshire there is graffiti attributed to Isaac Newton himself. Though it was protected by a piece of perspex when I saw it last, some scallywag had etched "wos here" underneath it. Presumably after Mr Newton had, as I did not think the slang used was prevalent around the time of Mr Newton!
