lil,
Loopi is Terri. It started out as an April Fool which Terri thought you'd twig immediately! It seems that you didn't and it soon became apparent that it highlighted a potential hootoo problem. If I were so inclined, and if you weren't such an attentive Ace, it would have been easy for me to groom 'Loopi'.
I wonder if there should be an age limit for hootoo members? (I thought there was an age limit of 13 but recently registered researchers seem to prove that wrong.)
I could have been anybody. Loopi could have been real and I could have got contact details before anyone noticed.
This worries me.

Hello love..
To be honest, unless the 'youngster' gives me an indication of age, then I wouldn't look into it any further.
As this account was activated late at night/early morning, then I though it was either an American, or someone with dyslexia and an adult.
As for age limit, we cannot make our limit of 16 years compulsory. All we can do is watch over them and advise as best we can. Most find us too boring and leave.

It worries me also. OK, it was just a silly joke, but it does seem to have highlighted that anybody can set up an account, the age thing on registering is a total joke, "state your birthdate"....how do they check that? i registered using my real email addy, which isn't a hotmail one, but if it was a hotmail/yahoo type one, i could have dozens of them!
I'm amazed that you didn't spot it straight away Lacey! I used anagrams of April Fool all over the place! I suppose all those things on TV distracted you....
Anyway Sowwyyy....i shall go & stand in the naughty corner.

16? I didn't know that!
Blimey, I'd better delete my account then...

The account was set up very late at night.. my eyes were tired. As was I.
When a newbie continues chatting, you know how much you want to help them.
All that has happened, is to make me wary of ACEing 'funny names', which is a shame really. Especially when I am usually quite good at spotting sockpuppets.

Yes, it's 'cos you are so good at that, i imagined it would just be a very quick joke, but by the time i'd set the account up, hootoo did its Sunday downtime thing & you'd disappeared; i actually sat around for an hour waiting for it to come back on so i could confess, but eventually gave up.
Then today i lurked & saw that nobody else except me & SWL seemed to have done April Fool stuff, so i went along with it. daft really. But as roy pointed out, it does highlight a loophole in the system.

The very nature of this place, and our mutual familiarity, makes it dangerous.
Lil, if you've been made to feel uncomfortable about acing funny names I think that's for the better.
There are many, many places children can go, and some are on the BBC!
I doubt many pre-teens are going to write guide entries so, as there are alternatives, I don't think they should be here.
If I were the parent of a pre-teen I don't think I'd want them to see my journal. My journal contains no bad language or graphic references, just a lot of innuendo. I feel uncomfortable knowing that Megachedda can read it.
Yes, hootoo is visible to all, but we all know that journals are only read by members.

Then perhaps you and Roy should tell the tower about it.
I don't mind the fun of April Fools day.. It's just that we have enough silly sods in the newbie list, it is the one place that makes it difficult to spot a joke
lil xx
