How is the snow condition any luck of visiting (grand)parents by sled and ski or is it raining (again) like in most of Europe?"

Well for the moment I live in Stavanger, on the west coast. That means there is very little snow during winter. I have to drive into the mountains to find the white stuff, about an hours drive. But around Oslo, Lillehammer Trondheim you will find snow pretty close to the city. And further north the snow lies steady from december. At least in the interior regions, on the coast there can be more rainy. But you shouldnt have problems finding snow if you come to Norway.
So pack up...

Late response..
Went skiing yesterday, Hunnedalen. -15 degrees centigrade, 50 cm+ snow. Wonderful conditions. Oh, such a lovely day.
