with all the lard and other animal fats we eat during winter it is okay to drink snaps purely for medicinal reasons

I'll have to find some other excuse to indulge a bit here and there (no animal fats for me). A day that ends in "y" seems like a good occasion, no?

I've removed the aquavit from the freezer and stuck it in the pantry.
The black forest cake was good- it stuck in the pan and broke so I didn't make layers, but just glopped all the fillings on top, but it was yum. I accidentally used twice as much kirsch as the recipe called for, though.

If the recipe's anything like the ones I've seen, you probably did the right thing by doubling the amount of kirsch. Incidentally, if you just 'glopped' (lovely word) the fillings on top of broken cake, I think you actually made Black Forest Trifle.
