Although blowing seems to be de rigeur you can also whistle by sucking too.
Although it's a bit more difficult.
The nasal cavity plays a role too, I think, as some whistlers can often provide a back beat with the closed nasal cavity giving some "bottom end" (muso speak).
How about some tips on really loud whistling as I can't
