A Tolkien reference is a good point. Part of what I love about this show is that it's science fiction, but still holds that precious fantasy element of the neverending battle between the darkness and the light. And it's not just an us against them alien sort of thing--it's a lot more realistic about how the "bad guys" get to be bad, and how people (er, Lando) can make bad decisions but still be good people, even as enemies...
