Why am I missing all these interesting threads?

Peter
Every so often I look at this endless thread called 'Members of the Peoples War Website'.
I see that on your entry (Message 207) you refer to various threads, (e.g. 351281) and I find them of interest. My question is what am I not doing right that causes me to miss these threads in the first place?. At present when I enter the sight I usually go through the same routine. 1. To my own personal page
2. The editorial desk. 3. Feedback
4. Research desks and that's about it
Where am I going wrong
Much puzzled

Hi Ron
A pleasure to hear from you, as always
I had left that gargantuan thread some time ago, but then I returned and foolishly thought I was clarifying an academic term, the result is a heap of insults.
As to your question, the site is a bit limited and it lacks a good search facility. I am now involved in over a hundred or so threads and I have learnt a lot from them. If I find any which I think might be of interest to you I'll get them for you. Your tank expertise would be invaluable in many, certainly to me.
Apart from all that, how is it going? Is life smiling on you? I do hope so.
Best wishes,
Peter

Two stories which recently caught my eye are these: A2338724 (story and comment) and http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/ww2/F1730158?thread=389303. The first is a classic case of faulty memory based on fact, the second is quite impossible. Another sad entry is here A2400940 (story and comment), sad because it led to one of the most shameful acts on the Allied side in WW2. This and events later in Viet Nam show how easy it is to slip into the very evil you are fighting. Peter

Hi Peter
Thanks for the other threads, I hadn't known about the last story.
I'm afraid that you haven't explained to me yet how you came upon these threads, which is why I asked in the first place.
Any help welcome

Ron

Hi Ron
The threads I have forwarded to you were all initiated by be and mainly my replies to questions asked at the Research Desks. Those are all listed on my Personal Page U521078
Scroll down to "My WW2 Forum", then click on "See all Discussions" for a full list, it now runs to 20 pages or more!
Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter
Thanks for the above but it doesn't work from my end. To explain
1. I go to your personal page
2. I scroll down to your 'My WW2 Forums'
3. I go to click on 'See all discussions' and that's when it all falls down.
The use of 'See all discussions' option only works when you are looking at your OWN personal page. In my case it gives me 3 pages, in your case it gives you 20 (but it won't let me look at them)
Perhaps you will mention this to the powers above when you next point out some recommendations to improve the site
Regards
Ron

Hi Ron
I didn't realise that; you are quite right. Seems to be yet another bug. As it stands we all seem to be bashing away in isolation until we actually join a thread. We also need a good internal search engine; I now have well over 20 pages of forum threads and I am finding it increasingly difficult to home in on any particular one; we need some sort of index. Another one to go on the list.

WW2 People's War Team Posted Mar 25, 2004
Morning, Ron and Peter
How to find where the interesting conversations are coming up? Very good question.
Search. We (the People's War Team) are pushing for a better Search and I am sure we have got the message through but we still have not managed to get a date for when the work will be done. I suspect it will be produced in stages. We will definitely let you know when it is available.
Other members' forum lists. It's an interesting solution to go look at other people's choice of discussion. I'll add the missing 'See All Discussions' to the bug list. It won't be a priority fix and it could be miss-used by someone wanting to stalk a site member.
I rely on someone tipping me off! Just as, Peter, you did here. I often feel the site is like a buzzy party with lots of rooms – if your mate is in another room and you think he would love the conversation you are listening to you go and get him. The more people swap notes – the stronger the relationships – the better the community spirit – the more people chat - etc etc
