Today my daughter is having her 30th Birthday and getting on a plane to come and see me. How exciting is that!? She'll arrive about 6am Monday (local Sydney time) but it will be about 7pm Sunday on her body clock.
I think I need to have a chat with her about the inadvisability of expecting me to turn up at the airport before sunrise on a Monday morning. But I will endeavour to be there.

That's wonderful! I'm sure you'll manage to get up that early (and isn't it summer in Oz? The sun should rise a lot earlier than 6am anyway? )

I'm counting the hours now! I think sunrise is 0613 tomorrow, so it will be a grey light at the airport if I got there as her plane touches down but I only live about 20 minutes away so I'll set off when the plane is due to land, so I don't give all my money to the airport car park troll!

She's arrived safely - but I was late.
Do you have a SatNav/GPS thingy in your car? I do. Do you have yours? So do I... what do you mean you said "No"?
I set off to the airport and thought "What if my normal route that I know and love is blocked. Turn on the GPS! GPS on. Press the button for the airport. Button pressed.
Ooh it's telling me a new route - maybe it will be a shortcut I don't know... Why am I going down the motorway away from Sydney. Why did I press the button for Canberra airport? Why am I allowed out alone?
Phone rings while I am in the tunnel approaching the airport. "Hi, Dad! I'm here at the arrivals gate but I can't see you."
Thinks: shall I say she just needs to look harder?
"I'm only a few minutes away my sweet. Daddy will be with you shortly."
"Don't call ME shortly" - no she didn't say that.
Hugs and kisses soon ensued and off we went to my flat. Just time for daughterkins to shower and change and off we went to the station to catch the train into Circular Quay, home to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House (SOH). Quick trot to the SOH for mandatory photos and then coffee by the water. Skip to ferry terminal and off we go to Manly. Look, you get to see the SOH from all angles as the ferry goes round it.
Manly is HOT. Eat yummy meal at sea facing restaurant. Drag ourselves back to ferry to go back to Circular Quay, Back onto train and back to my place via the shops to pick up some essentials like fruit and eggs.
Out for a meal with a group of friends and now daughterkins is safely tucked up in bed (9.15 pm). Job done. Lovely day together - managed to keep her awake until a reasonable bed-time hour so that she can start to acclimatise.
Temperature is 36C on the car thermometer at the time we came back into my flat. That's 96-97F Phew, a scorcher! Let's check the Heathrow temp... 3C - 37F Ooh chilly.

You can call her anything you want, she's asleep.
