I lived in Northampton Town for 10 years and just over the border in Bucks for almost 20 and have lots to contribute. I'm busy today but will drop back soon with lots of information.

The longest operating canal tunnel *is* at Blisworth (although Harecastle comes a close second). The canal museum is certainly at Stoke Bruerne and it becomes extremely crowded in the summer as everyone frequents the pub opposite.

The annual ballon festival is spectacular and runs for at least 3 days. They do ballon glows every evening and lots of 'hare and dog' races. There is also a thriving hot air ballon business - I was given a 'champagne flight' for one of my birthdays. smiley - biggrin

One thing which happened in Northampton Town which affected myself and around 2,000 other people was the flood on Good Friday 1988 - it happened the same day as the Irish Peace Agreement so was pretty much ignored by the press. I think I have a picture of my car floating down the road somewhere...

Greetings from sunny St Lucia I hear snow is forecast back home.

A couple more items on the history of Northamptonshire.

We have two of the three original surviving Queen Elenor crosses located in the county, at Northampton & Geddington near Kettering. these were built around 1290.

Guy Fawkes & Catesby hatched the gunpowder plot at Ashby St Ledger.

Shirps re a hootoo meet up my watering hole is the Griffin in HF i hold court there early doors most evenings when home. I'm known there as Guinness Dave because of my liking for the Black stuff

I don't know about '88, and can't say much for any good friday malarky, not having ben politically aware for very long, but I do remember a flood about six years ago now. Perhaps you meant '98?

The rather strange sight of seeing cars float along a street is not one I shall be forgetting...

Thru'pence,

Discus.
