Have you come across Richard Dawkin's Evolutionary Stable Strategies(ESS). In your species A and B example I think you will find that together the strategy of A and B are not ESS. This means that one species will die out. You need to simulate this on a computer with lots of runs to find out what are ESS and what are not. Typically you get many different ESS that help further species existence and the extinction ESSs die out. The only time an extinction ESS wins is if is dominant in the initial state.
