Oh dear. Prince Harry photographed at a fancy dress party in a German uniform and the blue rinse brigade go loopy. Is it just me, or do you have to just love him for daring to go outside the box?
So (Bracing myself for abuse) is he a breath of fresh air, or should we just burn him at the stake for crimes against the state?
I vote for breath of Fresh Air personally...........and there was a guy on the radio this morning claiming that if he was going to wear an outfit like that, he should be banned from joining the British Army.
How hysterical can you get?

I guess this would be an entirely inappropriate moment to mutter things about the Royals being a "bunch of bloody Germans".
Yes, I thought so. I'll get me coat...

I think what this whole sorry incident proves is that Prince Harry has not nearly enough Black, Jewish, Asian, Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, Buddhist, Chinese, Japanese, Inuit, and frankly female friends, and too many rich white chinless male friends. So send him to live on an ineer city estate AT ONCE. On £50 a week. Before it's too late and his brain fossilizes.

Hmm, I suspect certain newspapers had bugger all better to print that day!
It was a fancy dress party... who cares what some kid wears - it certainly doesn't turn him into a nazi!

Well, yes and no.
But let me get the frivolous question out of the way first - was this a "sound of music" party, and if so would he have got less stick if he had gone as a nun?
On one hand, the people who are criticising him have gone ridiculously overboard. On the other, if you are third in line to the throne or whatever, with all the benefits that that brings, is it really asking too much to avoid the Nazi costume? He's clearly not the sharpest tool in the box, but then after centuries of inbreeding, what do you expect?

Wierd simulpost doctor - I think there was a minute between our postings!
I got a good laugh this morning when I heard it, and I suspect a lot of people will have just thrown their eyes to heaven when they heard it. I guess its yet another example of how the Royal family have become an anachronism in today's society. Personally, despite the wealth and upbringing they get, I don't know why they take it, and I can't easily see how people are happy to see their tax money spend on all this either...

I never realised the Hewetts were that in-bred, or that German for that matter. And the Spencers certainly aren't German.
It strikes me as stupid and tactless more than anything else. If it *was* a Sound of Music party, or a Cabaret Party for that matter, then it does go a long way towards explaining it.
I think Ag is right. His circle of friends is rather narrow, bless it.

I couldnt give a rats ass what he wore. He could dress up as a head shrinker with a bone through his nose if he wanted or a Klansman. Its a party.
Anyone want to complain about the costumes in the Producers or Blazing saddles while we are on?
I remeber James Brown a journalist I have immense repsct for beause this is how I tpe when Im NOT off my head on a cocktali of drugs, getting in a spot of hat water for doing a feature on Nazi Unifiorms. Which he thought were great and they were/are.
Prince Harry wears uniform: News.
Thugs beat woman black and blue for wering a hijab: Police turn up half an hour after they are called.
I suppose this press intrusion and mania is the flip side of all the priviliges he has

That's what I thought too, as well as 'what an idiot'. I mean, of all the costumes to choose . . . he must have known the response it was going to get.

one can't help but wonder if some of his more cruel 'friends' encouraged him to. I mean, if there was going to be someone to pick on in your circle of friends, the dimwit in line to the throne (maybe) has got to be high on the list.
(Why did an image of Hugh Laurie just flash up in my mind? )

The point is he could be King one day, will all those people directly affected by the Nazis accept him as King with this in his past?
On the one hand I don't care, but on the other I have relatives who were killed by being gassed, so it does come across as stupid. Do we want such a stupid person on the throne?
Does it matter if we have an incredibly stupid and insensitive person on the throne, as they don't mater much now anyway?
We also have to consider how the world views us and for some countries the royals are still very important. Do we want an idiotic teenage, brainless prank to affect our diplomatic dealings with the rest of the world?

Which is why I also said, do they matter now anyway, whatever they do?
It may matter to the rest of the world.
Philip isn't King though, would that make a difference?

well before we get bumbling harry we might get bumbling Charlie. Not sure about Willam. Although I think the chances of him not producing offspring are pretty small, so Harry is unlikely to get the crown.

From BBC News site:
"Clarence House has issued a statement saying the prince has apologised and realised it had been a poor costume. "
Yeah, at least wear one that's well made!
